A
Vision for Peace
The
World Peace Café was built to provide a relaxing, serene
environment that is ideal for enjoying a healthy meal, working
quietly on a laptop, reading a book, or chatting with friends
over tea. It is like a true sanctuary in the midst of a busy
and stressful world. Operated by the local Sandy Springs Buddhist
Center, the Café is a bridge between the Center and the
local community. Inspired by the vision of our Spiritual Director,
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the World Peace Café
is designed to show the example of public service arising from
a compassionate, peaceful heart.
Although
it is the first full-scale World Peace Café in the United
States, there are already World Peace Cafés in Ulverston,
England; Paris, France; Vienna, Austria; and Hong Kong, China.
Understanding that without inner peace, outer peace is impossible,
the Café hopes to serve as a place of refuge which will
inspire peace and happiness in our customers. We do not wish
to make others Buddhist; we wish to help others find inner peace
and happiness.
Good
Food, Good People
We
strive to use locally grown, organic produce whenever possible.
In addition to our menu of blissful vegetarian food, the Café
serves a variety of specialty, high-quality organic teas (even
our sweet iced tea!), and out-of-this-world desserts.
The
World Peace Café has come from the heart of giving, making
it a place of good-heartedness, and of peace, purity, and refuge.
This intention has motivated those you see working at the Café
to volunteer their time and resources to provide you with a
place of peace. The World Peace Café is staffed primarily
by volunteers who have generously offered their time. The construction
of the Café was also almost entirely completed by volunteers,
some traveling great distances in order to help develop a vision
for world peace. The monetary resources to construct the Café
were all made by donations. No bank loans were taken for this
World Peace Café, thanks to the kindness of benefactors
from Atlanta and around the world! To extend this message of
peace and generosity beyond the walls of this Café, we
partner with other organizations in the Atlanta area, such as
Hands on Atlanta and Project Open Hand.
